November Meeting

Speaker: Celeste Silling, Mgr, Gulf Coast Bird Observatory

Celeste will speak on the attributes of Hummingbirds and how the Observatory assists the birds through conservation, research, and education.

October Meeting

The October meeting will be held at Water Smart Park, 1810 Louisiana, at 10:00a October 14th.

Our speaker will be Chariss York. This will be a Walking Tour and Chariss will talk about Gihrardi Family Water Smart Park. The Gihrardi Family WaterSmart Park is a picturesque outdoor classroom designed to teach the community about local plant life and water conservation.

Perched along Louisiana Street, a short distance south of FM 518, this lush three-acre park displays a beautiful canopy of Oak trees, which line the area and provide a shaded space for visitors. Chariss York monitors the park for storm water projects and will lead the presentation about the many conservation practices designed into the garden. Many of them can be applied to the home environment.

Join the LCGC for the first meeting of the year in the beautiful League City destination garden where we will hear the history of the garden from concept to striking downtown centerpiece. Greg Gripon, the garden landscape designer will talk about the goals and the challenges for this project.

LCGC will be at Hometown Heros park for EcoFest

EcoFest will be held at Hometown Heros park in League city on September 9, 2020, 10am - 2pm.

LCGC will have a booth and a plant sale with mini classes given by Master Gardeners.  Monies from the plant sale will go to the Scholarship fund and the Wildflower project.  Please come out and support our club.

League City Garden Club wins first place!

 National Garden Clubs, Inc. awarded the The League City Garden Club first place for their video about the history of the club.  Included in the award was what we do as a club and how we serve the community.  Our president, Lisa Lofaro, was responsible for putting the video together.  Thank you Lisa!

Below are comments from the Judges on the various items that were judged:

Presentation:  Great presentation.  Love the incorporation of interviews.  Documentation is beautifully organized and a true testimonial to this club's achievements.  Beautiful pictures of Yard of the Month and community gardens.

Achievement: What an amazing effort to show your history.  So much time & effort has gone into this video.

Promotion:  Promotes the overall objectives of NGC and garden clubs around the country.  Your scholarship program is amazing.

Total: This video is a true testament to what great things a garden club can do in a community.  This club has been influential in so many areas and this documentary catalogs their achievements and history beautifully.

Please stay safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic observing social distancing. Since all our activities are cancelled while we safely stay at home, the League City Garden Club has come up with a fun art contest.

Unlock your inner artist While safely at home, you can explore nature in your yard, on your balcony or the scenic view from a sunny window. Capture nature in a drawing or painting and share it with us. From the majesty of the towering trees, to the vibrant colors of a flowering plant or the intricate patterns
formed by moss growing on a rock. Show us your unique style!

LCGC Meetings cancelled

To All League City Garden Club Members and Friends,

In the interest of public health and safety, the League City Garden Club will not meet in April or
May of this year. We’re exploring the possibility of rescheduling the April field trip to a much later date.

Social distancing is difficult, especially for such a prolonged amount of time as we are facing.
Please remember to reach out to each other over the phone or through your computer and
stay in close contact.

March Meeting

Please join us at 10:00a on Wednesday, March 11, 2020.

Remember to go to the Recreation Facility for this month’s meeting. It is
the building between the Arolfo Civic Center and the pool. This is a temporary
change of venue. After March, we will return to our regular accommodations


Our speaker for March will be Lisa Davis. Lisa will speak on Native
Plants for our gardens. Many gardeners want plants that are
attractive, low maintenance, functional, not invasive, but beneficial
to wildlife. Lisa will will provide a better understanding of Native
Plants and how to use them in your garden.

Please don’t forget to bring a gardening-related item to the as a donation to the Raffle Cart for our Garden Walk
fundraiser. We’re assembling the cart early this year so raffle tickets will be
available at the July Luncheon. Thank you for your generous support

A heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to everyone who already paid their Membership
dues. Those who haven’t can still pay in person at Wednesday’s meeting or mail
their check for $30 made out to LCGC to
